Leprosy bacteria replicate extremely slowly—only once every two weeks
Mycobacterium leprae has a long incubation period and a very slow replication rate, taking roughly 12 to 14 days to make a copy of itself and divide. This also makes the disease difficult to treat. This video describes the knowns—and unknowns—about this infectious bacterium.
