The Quartodeciman controversy debated what day to celebrate Easter in the early church
Asian churches marked Easter on the 14th day of the Hebrew month of Nisan (roughly March-April), while Roman churches insisted on Sunday. Polycarp of Smyrna, an associate of the Apostle John (who tradition says wrote one of the four Gospels) traveled to Rome to advocate for the 14th of Nisan. The Nicene Council decided that celebrating on a Sunday would ensure Christian unity and distinguish the observance from Jewish passover.
