  2. It is illegal under Indian law to attempt to visit the island or make contact with the tribe

  3. In 2017, Chau made plans to travel to the island to spread Christianity, wondering in his diary if the location was "Satan's last stronghold" on Earth

  4. According to reports, Chau paid local fishermen to get him close to the island. On his third attempt to canoe to shore, he was struck by an arrow. His body has never been recovered

  5. The incident raised questions about the role of the missionary community and the place of isolated indigenous communities and their place in the modern world
