  2. Lydia is believed to be the woman depicted in some of Cassatt's better-known early works, like "Woman in a Loge" and "Driving."

  3. Cassatt painted a series of portraits of Lydia, who suffered from a kidney disease, showing her health declining.

  4. Cassatt scholars say that the painter turned to mothers and daughters after Lydia's death in 1882.
