Children are now three times more likely to say they want to be a YouTuber when they grow up than an astronaut, with some even attending 'YouTube camps' that teach kids how to create content for the platform.

Findings

Additional insights we found via The Washington Post

  1. A "YouTube Creators Camp" in Katy, Texas, is just one example of a new type of camp aimed at teaching kids how to develop their own YouTube channels.

  2. Some of these children are interested in becoming content creators as a sort of get-rich-quick scheme. But the numbers tell a different story—only 12% of full-time creators make more than $50K a year.

  3. By the camp's end, children understand how to create a YouTube channel and employ strategies for making their content successful, such as asking viewers to subscribe at the end of the video.
