Additional insights we found via BBC

  1. When staring at the sun, the dangerous blue light and ultraviolet radiation that reach the retina trigger the production of toxic chemicals, which can lead to cell and tissue damage—a condition called solar retinopathy.

  2. Symptoms of solar retinopathy can begin within hours of staring at the sun and include a gray, yellow, or dark spot at the center of one's field of view, eye pain, redness, irritation, and increased sensitivity to light.

  3. If one suspects they are suffering from solar retinopathy, they should seek medical attention immediately, and a formal diagnosis can be made with a retinal scan.
