Additional insights we found via Space.com

  1. Because ecliptic seasons—periods where the sun, Earth, and moon are closely aligned enough to produce eclipses—last about 35 days and the moon moves from between the sun and Earth to behind the Earth in about two weeks, every ecliptic season is long enough to fit at least one of each type of eclipse.

  2. If an eclipse occurs near the beginning or end of an ecliptic season, three eclipses may be observed, alternating between solar and lunar.

  3. Although the moon moves between the Earth and the sun every month, ecliptic seasons are not seen every month because the moon's orbit around the Earth is misaligned with Earth's orbit around the sun.
