  1. Annie Edson Taylor was the first person ever to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel, doing so on her 63rd birthday in 1901.

  2. Before her plunge over Niagara Falls, Edson Taylor sent her cat inside a barrel as a test. The cat survived and later posed with her in post-stunt photos.

  3. Maria Spelterini remains the only woman to have crossed the Niagara Gorge by tightrope, doing so in 1876 with added challenges, including crossing blindfolded and with her wrists and ankles handcuffed.

  4. George Stathakis died after his barrel became trapped behind the Falls for over 24 hours following his plunge in 1930, with the only survivor being his 150-year-old pet turtle.

  5. The death of Red Hill Jr. in 1951, whose makeshift inner-tube contraption resurfaced in pieces, prompted Canada and New York State to pass laws prohibiting stunting at Niagara Falls.
