Much like Candyland, Senet players follow a path of squares on the game's board, attempting to beat their opponents to the end.
Some of the squares are marked with symbols, indicating punishments (a water hazard) or rewards (a free turn).
Senet means "passing," and the game was a metaphor for the Egyptian belief that the dead must perform rituals to reach the afterlife.
On the wall of her tomb, Queen Nefertaru was depicted playing the game.
Tutankhamun (better known as "King Tut") was buried with five game boxes.
