  1. The light emitted by AG Draconis—a system of binary stars in the Draco constellation—changes for about 100 days every 10-15 years, and Roman's fortuitous observation of this phenomenon led to her invitation to Armenia for the dedication of an observatory.

  2. Upon returning to the Naval Research Laboratory from Armenia, leadership requested that Roman give a lecture on her trip, alongside a lecture series on astronomy, which increased her profile.

  3. Many of Roman's colleagues at NASA came from the Naval Research Laboratory and were familiar with her work, which contributed to her becoming the nascent agency's Chief of Astronomy.
