Additional insights we found via NASA

  1. One of two successful OAO satellites, Stargazer confirmed the presence of clouds of hydrogen around comets and provided ultraviolet observations of stars, which Earth's atmosphere mostly blocks from ground-based observatories.

  2. The development of Stargazer's pointing system, which aligned the telescope to a target for about half an hour, contributed to the development of similar systems for the Hubble Space Telescope, Chandra X-ray Observatory, Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory, and other space-based telescopes.
