In the greater Austin, Texas, area, homebuilding company Lennar and technology firm Icon built a community of 100 3D-printed homes at a rate of one home every two weeks, with three laborers.
Anecdotally, one resident enjoys that they can hang pictures and other items anywhere they want by screwing into the concrete walls, which keep electric bills low by maintaining a consistent internal temperature.
As of 2025, the 3D-printed homes start at under $400,000, but the companies hope to lower costs further through additional automation, open floor plans, a faster wall system, and more efficient, next-generation printers.
