Additional insights we found via NOAA

  1. Kelp forms dense underwater forests and uses gas-filled bladders, called pneumatocysts, to stay upright.

  2. More than 1,000 marine species are supported by these kelp forests, which serve as nurseries, provide protection from predators, and serve as feeding grounds.

  3. Kelp forests also protect coasts from wave energy, store carbon, and help cycle nutrients.
