By comparison, 26% of homebuyers were millennials in 2025, down from 29% in 2024. meaning that as the share of millennial homebuyers shrank, Gen Z's share grew.
Many of these Gen Z homeowners have compromised on location and tightened their expenses to make buying a home possible. Some spend time living with their parents as adults in order to save money as well.
The average age for a first-time homebuyer in the US hit a record high of 40 in 2025, up from 29 in the 1980s.
