Roughly a third of Lucas' original dialogue for the film was rewritten by two "script doctors," professionals who punch up shoddy lines.
Tension with the crew and slow progress caused Lucas to feel like he was having a heart attack; he wasn't, but doctors told him that he was wrestling with abnormal amounts of anxiety.
The movie release was pushed from December 1976 to summer 1977 because of delays with special effects, something Lucas believe would doom the film at the box office.
"Star Wars" was not the most popular movie on its release weekend; the top spot belonged to "Smokey and the Bandit."
