On May 7, 2025, a crowd of over 60,000 at Virginia Tech's Lane Stadium produced a tremor dubbed the "MetalliQuake" when Metallica played its 1991 hit, "Enter Sandman."
"BeastQuake" refers to the seismic event on January 8, 2011, when Seattle Seahawks' Marshawn Lynch—nicknamed "Beast Mode"—completed a game-winning 67-yard touchdown run during the NFL Wild Card playoffs in front of a crowd of more than 65,000.
During a performance of "Shake It Off" at SoFi Stadium as part of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, seismic activity registered the equivalent of a magnitude 2.0 earthquake.
Seismic waves from natural causes exhibit distinct characteristics from those of human-induced tremors, which are much weaker and pose no threat if engineers appropriately design stadiums and other venues.
