  1. The Deep-ocean Assessment and Reporting of Tsunamis system can detect small changes in sea level, including those associated with tsunami waves, from variations in water pressure above seafloor sensors, and transmits this data to a surface buoy connected to a satellite network.

  2. If an earthquake's point of origin—its hypocenter—is detected underneath the ocean floor, data from seismographs can be coupled with hydrographic data from DART to forecast potential tsunamis.

  3. As of late 2024, there are 74 DART buoy systems worldwide, with more than half managed by the US.
