The OOI consists of five arrays containing more than 900 instruments—45 different types—collecting data across more than 200 physical, chemical, geological, and biological variables from the seafloor to the ocean surface.
These instruments are supplemented by autonomous underwater vehicles, satellite data, and video technologies.
All data is readily available to anyone with an internet connection, with about 10 to 12 terabytes added each month.
