Spousal IRAs give spouses who do not work a way to save for retirement
In most cases, only working individuals can open and contribute to an IRA. But the IRS has a special exception for married couples: the spousal IRA. It lets the working spouse open and contribute to an IRA on behalf of their nonworking spouse.
