Additional insights we found via Deep Look

  1. Spawning is thought to be triggered by factors such as the lunar cycle, water temperature, tides, water salinity, and day length.

  2. Reproductive cells slowly rise to the ocean's surface, where they fertilize and divide to form a larva called a planula.

  3. Guided by light and chemical sensors, planula swim through the ocean, searching for a surface to attach to and grow into an adult polyp, which later sprouts copies of itself from its sides.
