David Carter's book "Stonewall: The Riots That Sparked the Gay Revolution" said the bar's jukebox was loaded with "singles, which could be played for 10 cents a song, or three for a quarter."
According to people who spent time there in June 1969—the month of the Stonewall Uprising, a protest against NYPD harassment of the bar's patrons—said some of the songs on heavy rotation were Jerry Butler's "Only the Strong Survive," Marvin Gaye's "Too Busy Thinking About My Baby," and The Ronettes' "You Came, You Saw, You Conquered."
Diana Ross and the Supremes' "The Young Folks," a song about the country's counterculture, was another popular track.
The Inn also had a smaller back room that played harder soul music, especially artists from the Stax record label, like Otis Redding and Carla Thomas.
