The character, named Tik-Tok, appeared a decade before Czech playwright Karel Čapek introduced the word "robot" in "Rossum's Universal Robots."
Unlike the well-known Tin Man, another character from the "Oz" series, Tik-Tok was never a human; he was created by men, speaks in a monotone, and says he is incapable of human emotion.
