  1. Cosmic rays are predominantly charged particles, such as protons, alpha particles, and other atomic nuclei, which follow a random-walk-like trajectory through space as they pass through the magnetic fields of galaxies, stars, planets, and other celestial objects.

  2. The random walk traversed by cosmic rays makes determining their source location almost impossible, though the highest-energy cosmic rays suffer the least deflection, and chargeless cosmic rays, such as neutrinos, suffer no deflection from magnetic fields.
