  1. Lange, who took some of the most iconic photos of the 20th century, was hired by the United States government in 1942 to document the "relocation" of Japanese-Americans into concentration camps.

  2. She believed the photographs would act as a “true record of the evacuation would be valuable in the future.”

  3. When military commanders saw her work, however, they censored it, even suggesting some of the images should be "Impounded," though they were available in the National Archives after the war concluded.
