Transformers change the current and voltage across a set of wires by wrapping them around a magnetic core and using the magnetic field of one wire to induce a current in the other.

Additional insights we found via Northwest Lineman College

  1. The wires are each wrapped a different number of times, where a decrease in the number of coils from the first to the second wire causes the voltage to decrease, and vice versa.

  2. As alternating current flows through one wire, it generates a changing magnetic field that induces an alternating current in the second wire, with the magnetic core amplifying this induction.
