  1. It's not actually golden-colored blood. The nickname is meant to underscore how rare this blood type is.

  2. Rh null, also known as “golden blood,” lacks all 61 Rh antigens, making it a universal donor for rare Rh cases, but a nightmare in emergencies, since only Rh null can be given back. It's the result of a rare genetic mutation.

  3. People with this extremely rare blood type are encouraged to donate and freeze their own blood so it can be donated back to them in an emergency.
