Bradbury was not a student at the school: He didn't go to college and, by the time he'd moved to Los Angeles, was a married father with two daughters and needed a quiet place to write, which he found at UCLA's Powell Library.
The library rented typewriters and charged ten cents per half hour; Bradbury estimated that the first draft of the novel, then called "The Fireman," cost him $9.80.
Even after the advent of computers, Bradbury continued to use typewriters for his work.
