Additional insights we found via Science Politics

  1. The varied and poorly understood symptoms of perimenopause and menopause result in doctors and patients sometimes being left flat-footed when it comes to care decisions. This issue is common enough that the American Cancer Society has an entire webpage dedicated to parsing out the differences between cancer and menopause symptoms.

  2. Primary care physicians are often not trained on menopause symptoms. Even specialists have little training in menopause: Less than a third of OB-GYN training programs in the US offer a menopause curriculum.
