This short film aims to illuminate the emotional, psychological, and physiological aspects of different states of consciousness and draws out similarities between high doses of psychedelic drug use and accounts of near-death experiences.
Research conducted at Imperial College of London and published in 2018 in the journal Frontiers in Psychology, concluded that the experience of people given intravenous DMT, a psychedelic, was very reminiscent of a near-death experience in terms of its intensity and consciousness effects.
The lead researcher of that Imperial College of London study, Dr. Chris Timmermann, explains in this video that he wonders whether some experiences are so novel that they can't be put into words, which contributes to humans forgetting them and related challenges studying them.
