Made from titanium, stainless steel, graphite epoxy, and insulation, Canadarm had rotating joints at the shoulder, elbow, and wrist, and could lift up to 266,000 kg in microgravity using less electricity than a teakettle.
Over 30 years of service, Canadarm was used to send satellites into orbit, capture satellites for repair, assemble the International Space Station, support astronauts during spacewalks, film astronauts' experiences in space with two IMAX cameras, and inspect the shuttle's thermal protection system.
