Fashion industry insider and “Clotheshorse” podcast host Amanda Lee McCarty got into the fashion industry by working at an Urban Outfitters store before eventually being moved to their corporate office as a buyer. The role taught her about how mass-market clothing is made, marketed, and priced.
She argues that even brands one might not typically think of as fast fashion—such as Anthropologie, Free People, and TJ Maxx—operate under fast-fashion business models.
For instance, some of these brands release hundreds of styles each week, promoting overconsumption and overproduction. These "fast" turnaround times on creating and launching new styles is how "fast fashion" got its name.
