The African Ancestry Neuroscience Research Initiative, based in Baltimore, Maryland, seeks to unravel how ancestry influences gene expression in the human brain and affects disease risk for conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and stroke.
The US government-sponsored All of Us project, as of June 2026, included more than 645,000 participants from communities historically underrepresented in biomedical research, including older adults, women, people with disabilities, people of all races and ethnicities, and residents of rural and non-metropolitan areas.
