After being honorably discharged from the Army, Brooks began performing stand-up comedy in the Borscht Belt, the predominantly Jewish vacation region of upstate New York, which eventually led to a job writing for fellow comic Sid Caesar.
The writing room on "Your Show of Shows" also included Carl Reiner, who would become one of Brooks' frequent collaborators, and Neil Simon, who'd go on to write "The Odd Couple" and eventually win the Pulitzer Prize for drama.
