  1. When he was 14, Brooks worked in maintenance for the Butler Lodge, a Borscht Belt venue that staged plays, and was asked to fill in for a cast member of the play "Uncle Harry" who'd gotten sick.

  2. On stage, the nervous Brooks accidentally dropped a glass and said, "I'm 14. I've never done this before!"—the impromptu outburst got a big laugh.

  3. Brooks credits the experience with convincing him he wanted to become a professional comedian.
