The Arctic warms more quickly than the rest of the planet because of the loss of surface ice, a lack of vertical air circulation, and the release of thermal energy as water vapor condenses.

Ice is a highly reflective surface that can reflect incident sunlight back into space, but any melting triggers a feedback loop in which ice loss reduces reflection and leaves more energy in the environment to melt additional ice.
While the tropics receive abundant sunlight, which heats surface air that rises and mixes vertically throughout the atmosphere, the Arctic receives much less direct sunlight, which leaves greenhouse gases in the air arriving from the tropics near the surface, where they can trap thermal energy and raise temperatures. with greater intensity.
Because the equator is warmer than the poles, humid air from the tropics gradually circulates toward the poles, where colder temperatures condense water vapor, a greenhouse gas that releases energy into the environment as it transitions from gas to liquid, thereby driving temperature increases and further trapping of energy.
