Additional insights we found via Victory Journal

  1. Ellis took a tab of LSD on an off day in San Diego, assuming that the drug's effects would wear off by the time he had to pitch the following day, but grew confused and wound up taking another dose the morning he was scheduled to pitch.

  2. Ellis claimed that over 90% of major leaguers were using Dexamyl, a stimulant, to help them endure the season's 162 games; Ellis took a different stimulant, Benzedrine, in order to offset the LSD before the game.

  3. It was the 174th no-hitter in MLB history, but the only one where the pitcher claimed to be high at the time.
