IMAX uses laser projectors, large-format cameras, and custom processing tools to create a more vivid, immersive viewing experience.

Findings

Additional insights we found via The Wall Street Journal

  1. IMAX theaters have larger, wider screens that require a specific type of film and camera.

  2. IMAX film is significantly larger than standard 35mm film, allowing for larger images with richer texture.

  3. Historically, IMAX was difficult to use for full-length feature films because the film is incredibly loud while running through a camera, making it difficult to capture actors' dialogue; in recent years, though, that problem has been resolved, with Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" becoming the first full-length feature film shot entirely in IMAX.
