The idea of the "Peter Principle" is that promotions are often given to high performers in a certain role, but that promotion might not be something that person is good at.
Dr. Peter uses the example of an engineer who might be really great at working on cars, who gets promoted to floorman, and fails because the engineer isn’t good at managing people.
As organizations get larger and more hierarchical, the "Peter Principle" can help explain inefficiencies that ultimately hurt the business’s productivity and success.
