Additional insights we found via Mental Floss

  1. Despite the ubiquity of the ads, the sales numbers weren’t quite as impressive—meaning the milk lobbyists didn’t necessarily succeed in their quest.

  2. Prior to the "Got Milk?" campaign, industry advocates had spent much of the 1980s promising that "Milk Does a Body Good" with an ad campaign focused on its health benefits.

  3. The "Got Milk?" campaign, created by ad agency Goodby Silverstein & Partners, instead focused on the bad things that could happen without milk, rather than the benefits of it.

  4. But despite a slight uptick in sales in the 1990s, average consumption of milk still slid from 0.96 cups daily to 0.59 cups between 1970 and 2011.
