Less than two months before the Battles of Lexington and Concord, a conflict between the British Army and residents of Salem, MA, nearly sparked a larger conflict.
The incident, known as "Leslie's Retreat," occurred when British Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Leslie attempted to seize cannons from a Colonial armory.
Leslie faced fierce colonial resistance in the streets of Salem, forcing British troops to return to Boston.
