The Presidential Fitness Test, designed to measure and promote schoolchildren's health, has returned to schools under the Trump administration after it had been retired by the Obama administration in 2012.

President Trump signed an executive order in July 2025 reinstating the fitness test at schools. The order stated, "As the United States prepares to celebrate its semiquincentennial anniversary in 2026, we must address the threat to the vitality and longevity of our country that is posed by America’s declining health and physical fitness."
The fitness test was retired when the Obama administration launched the Presidential Youth Fitness Program, an effort designed to promote health-focused activities, healthy lifestyles, personal goal setting, and regular physical activity.
The Presidential Physical Fitness Test's origins date back to the late 1950s, and the original test included activities including pull-ups for boys and modified pull-ups for girls, sit-ups, a shuttle run, standing long jump, 50-yard dash, and softball throw for distance. Later, a 600-yard walk-run was added to the standard test.
