  1. While people have long suspected that the tagline, coined in 1968, was a sexual reference born of the Hippie era, the agency behind it claims it simply wanted to emphasize the many things to admire—like history, nature, and culture—in Virginia.

  2. Others believe that the campaign is a subtle reference to Loving v. Virginia, the 1967 Supreme Court case that legalized interracial marriage in Virginia, but the advertising agency that coined the slogan insists there's no connection.

  3. The advertising company behind the campaign was also responsible for Geico's famous tagline: "A 15-minute phone call can save you 15% or more."
