Despite fears of creating black holes, the Large Hadron Collider produces collisions with energies of 13.6 trillion electronvolts, about 10 million times smaller than the energy needed to create the lightest possible black holes.

Although this prediction is based on Einstein's general relativity, some theorists have suggested that the LHC's energy would be sufficient to create micro-black holes because general relativity is an incomplete theory of the universe—it cannot explain gravity at the atomic scale.
However, such black holes should be indirectly observed via the energy they radiate before evaporating—a phenomenon known as Hawking radiation.
The lack of such observed radiation is further evidence against their existence.
