Without a magnetic field and atmosphere to deflect or block it, helium-3 from solar wind has accumulated on the lunar surface over billions of years in quantities more abundant than those found on Earth.
The fusion of helium-3 particles, which each contain two protons and one neutron, would release energy without producing dangerous neutron radiation.
