The US Army Corps of Engineers once stopped water from flowing into Niagara Falls to prevent long-term erosion.

  1. In 1969, the US Army Corps of Engineers dumped 28,000 tons of rock upstream to redirect the river flowing into the falls to the Canadian side to prevent erosion.

  2. It was the first time in 12,000 years that the falls on the American side were not flowing.

  3. The falls were dry for five months, revealing hidden coins and boulders, before the dam was removed.
