Additional insights we found via this resource
“Sebring Parlor Base Ball,” a tabletop board game in which players flicked a coin as if they were hitters, released as early as 1867.
Another game with similar gameplay, "Base-Ball Table," was patented in the same year, but never went into production.
Although Sebring's game was a far cry from modern fantasy sports—where real players' statistics determine points—game historians note it was the first to allow people to imagine themselves as athletes without actually participating in physical activity.
