Additional insights we found via Airplane Mode

  1. In a 24-hour period, the ISS orbits Earth 16 times by moving 28,000 kilometers per hour, or about 5 miles per second.

  2. Although Earth's gravity pulls on the ISS and causes it to fall, its high horizontal velocity causes it to continuously miss Earth as it descends, keeping it in orbit.
