The artifact was originally found on James Ross Island, with a record of its collection found in a field notebook alongside a sketch dated December 9, 1985, before it was rediscovered in a geology collection among thousands of specimens at the British Antarctic Survey.
Titanosaurs were massive, four-legged plant-eaters that lived 82 million years ago, possessed long necks and tails, and whose bodies spanned more than 35 meters (115 feet).
