Genomic sequencing is the process of determining the order of nucleotides that make up an organism's genetic information and can be done in about 24 hours or less for human DNA.

Findings

Additional insights we found via Mayo Clinic

  1. After DNA or RNA is extracted from an organism using a variety of mechanical and chemical processes, the molecule is broken up into smaller strands, a few hundred nucleotide bases long.

  2. DNA fragments are replicated hundreds of thousands of times to produce a measurable signal when they are read based on fluorescent signals unique to each nucleotide base.

  3. Computers analyze the fragments and align overlapping portions to reassemble the complete genome.
