The planet, Kepler-13Ab, is one of the more than 2,300 confirmed exoplanets discovered using the Kepler space observatory, and it's located in a solar system only 1,730 light years away from us.
The planet is massive and gaseous, and roughly six times the mass of Jupiter.
Astronomers proposed the titanium dioxide snow theory after noting that, unexpectedly, the atmosphere was cooler at higher altitudes.
Their explanation is that the planet's powerful winds must blow gas to the dark side of the planet, where it condenses into clouds of snow containing the titanium dioxide, and its strong surface gravity—six times greater than Jupiter's—pulls it out of the upper atmosphere and traps it in the lower atmosphere.
